In simple terms, Engineering is the branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures. This definition is especially true if we consider the origin, history and initial stages of ‘engineering’.
Earlier, engineering used to focus mainly on construction of structures, design and manufacturing of machines, military applications etc. Engineering used to consist of few main disciplines such as – mechanical engineering, civil engineering and electrical engineering. These branches are called the core branches of engineering.
Things have changed now! Engineering is a very broad field now. The broad field of engineering is made up of various disciplines and sub-disciplines. Each discipline focuses on a particular area of applied science, technology and types of application.
