As per the regulations set by College Board, any high school student is able to take the SATs. Generally, candidates who are in the 10th and the 11th standard attempt the SAT. In other words, an appropriate age to take the SAT is in between 17 to 19 years.
Also, the College Board has defined a certain set of rules for students who are less than 13 years old or are studying in a grade lower than the eight grade. These rules are as follows:
Students who are younger than 13 years old can only register by phone or mail. Students younger than 13 years of age can not register online due to internet privacy laws. There is a fee waiver for students who register via phone.
Students studying in a grade below eighth need not include a photo with their registration. However, they must carry a valid photo ID at the test centre.
Students who are above 21 years of age must carry with them an official government-issued photo ID at the test centre.
