Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, was founded with the noble vision to raise professionals and leaders of high academic calibre and unblemished character, nurtured with a strong motivation and commitment to serve humanity. The institution is the fulfillment of the vision of its founders Late Dr. D. G. S. Dhinakaran and the present Chancellor Dr. Paul Dhinakaran. Established in 1986 as an Engineering College, it was granted an autonomous status in 1999 and declared Deemed-to-be University by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in recognition of its academic excellence by the Ministry of Human Resources Development under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide notification no 9-3-2000-U3 dated 23.6.2004 of the Government of India. Accredited by NAAC, the institution offers a wide array of Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Degree programmes in various branches of Engineering, Biotechnology, Food processing and Agricultural Sciences. From a humble beginning of 180 students, the institution has rapidly grown to 8491 students and 452 faculty representing 18 academic departments.
In the three decades of service to higher education, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences has made significant progression in teaching learning, research and consultancy, innovation and transfer of technology, community service and value education. Translating the vision of the Founders into action, the institution is currently engaged in finding solutions to human problems in the four major areas such as Water, Food, Healthcare, and Energy through scientific and technological interventions.
The eminent Doctor (Late) N.S. Palaniappan, MBBS., DLO., who had a similar idea to start a college on behalf of Anna Memorial Committee in Coimbatore provided active support to this Mission.

C.S.Ramachandran B.A., (Late) Er.K.M.Elangovan, B.E., and the present active member of the College Council and Committee, Er.R.Somasundaram B.E.,FIE., contributed their might in establishing this higher education institution.
The Thudiyalur Cooperative Agricultural Services Limited was munificent enough to donate about Rs.75,000/- which included the dividend of 16,000 farmers. Other generous donors from the agricultural community and philanthropists of Kongunadu also have made valuable contributions
Dr.M.Aruchami, one of the founders of the College, the first Principal, former Secretary and the present President, a dedicated educationist with his sharp academic acumen, futuristic vision, the strong, impartial, transparent and able leadership has guided this Institution to its present state of fame and glory. Er.R.Somasundaram B.E.,FIE., a man of strong and clear convictions endowed with keen sense of imagination and dedication is presently serving as a Member in the College Council and the College Committee and is guiding the institution on the right path. Dr. C. A.Vasuki daughter of Dr. M. Aruchami and alumna of this college, a strong achiever has taken over charge as the Secretary of the College at present.
The College is ideally located in serene and rural surroundings not far from the city. It is conveniently connected with all parts of the city through frequent town buses plying from various destinations. Started in the year 1973 with a humble beginning, the college has grown magnificently in academic stature with autonomous status having 13 research programmes, 11 PG programmes and 22 UG programmes. The college is imparting higher education to approximately 5000 students, majority of whom hail from socially and economically weaker sections of the society. More than 60% of the students studying in the college are girls and thus the college is playing a pivotal role in women empowerment and social justice.
The University Grants Commission, New Delhi, conferred the Autonomous Status to our College in the academic year 2004 - 05. In the third cycle of re-accreditation, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council has awarded “A” grade with the CGPA of 3.64 out of 4 to the college. In the fourth cycle of re-accreditation, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council has awarded “A+” grade. The University Grants commission has awarded the prestigious award of College of Excellence during 2016-2017.
Madras Christian College autonomous was set up in Chennai in 1837. In the year 2013, the Madras Christian College was re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an ‘A’ Grade. The college is accredited with an A grade with NIRF rank standing at 18th under the college category in the year 2021. It is a Co-Ed institution. The campus has 33 departments, 105 classrooms, 16 seminar halls and 73 laboratories. There are 6 residential hostels at Madras Christian College. Among six, three are there for boys and three are there for girls. There is a central library, a modern cafeteria and an exclusive innovation park. The self-financing option to pursue education was started from the year 1999.

Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research came into existence as deemed to be the university in 2004. The academy is popularly known as MAHER, established by the Meenakshi Ammal Trust. MAHER has been ranked at 24th position in the dental category in the NIRF ranking 2021. The Institute offers courses in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Health Sciences, Humanities and Science and Yoga Science and Therapy through its constituent Institutions.
