Desh Bhagat University, Fatehgarh Sahib was established under the Punjab Government's Desh Bhagat University Act. The University's founding spirit is derived from freedom fighter Sr. Lal Singh Ji, who fought for India's independence and was awarded the "Tamra Patra" by the Government of India in 1972 for his efforts in social work and his services in the freedom struggle. Thus, the name Desh Bhagat was considered. The University was founded to achieve excellence in higher education, as envisioned by Sr. Lal Singh Ji.
