UGC is proposing to implement a common counseling system similar to JEE and NEET for admissions based on CUET UG.

The NTA CUET Counselling for JNU and BHU is in the pilot phase. With the introduction of common counselling, the participating universities will now adhere to a common merit list based on CUET scores, similar to the JEE Main for engineering and NEET UG for medicine.

An official informed Careers360 that discussions have been ongoing for the past three months, with a committee formed by the UGC for this purpose. Five universities have been selected as samples, including Mizoram University, University of Hyderabad, JNU, Kashmir University, and BHU.

The official expressed uncertainty regarding the implementation and feasibility of the process, citing the diverse nature of each university and their individual processes. The integration of these processes is expected to be challenging and will require long-term planning.

When contacted by Careers360, UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar declined to provide a comment.

As per data shared by Kumar previously, a total of 46 central universities, 32 state universities, 20 deemed-to-be universities, 98 private universities, and six government institutions are part of CUET UG 2024 and will admit students based on CUET UG scores.

Following delays in CUET admissions in 2023, the University of Allahabad had initially sought to revert to its own admission entrance test. However, the university later confirmed that they were not granted permission by the education ministry to conduct their test and had to continue with CUET UG.
