Prospective candidates are advised to thoroughly review the complete eligibility requirements prior to submitting their applications for JEE Main 2025.

This examination is conducted at the national level to facilitate admissions into various undergraduate engineering programs at IIITs, NITs, and CFTIs. The JEE Main 2025 will be held twice, specifically in January and April, utilizing an online (computer-based) format.

Candidates must ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria for the specific paper they intend to apply for before completing the application form. This article provides detailed information regarding the JEE Mains Eligibility for 2025.

JEE Main Eligibility 2025

In accordance with the modifications implemented in the JEE Main eligibility criteria last year, candidates are advised to review the comprehensive information provided below. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announces the eligibility criteria for JEE Main annually, and various adjustments are made each year.

Recently, the NTA conducted a review of the eligibility requirements for admission into IIITs, NITs, CFTIs, and other institutions that utilize JEE Main ranks for admissions through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). According to the established criteria, students are required to achieve a minimum of 75% marks in their 12th-grade examinations conducted by the respective boards (or 65% for candidates belonging to the ST/SC categories) to qualify for admission to these institutions.

Candidate must be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 exam conducted by the respective boards.

The candidates will be required to pass in each of the subjects of Class 12th/ qualifying exam.

Basic Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian Citizens.
  • NRIs, PIOs, OCIs & Foreign national candidates can also apply.

Requirement of “Aadhar Card”:

The Aadhaar Card is not a mandatory requirement for applying for this examination. Candidates may utilize their Passport number, Ration Card number, Bank Account number, or any other valid government-issued identity number.

Age Criteria:

  • Age Limit: There will be no age limit prescribed to apply for JEE Main 2025.

Qualification Criteria:

Qualifying Examination: Candidates must have successfully completed the 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board.

Subjects: Candidates are required to take at least five subjects in their 12th grade or equivalent examination. Those intending to appear for JEE Main must have passed the 12th grade with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, in addition to one of the following: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or Technical Vocational subjects.

Eligible Candidates: Candidates who are currently enrolled in the 12th grade or an equivalent class in 2025 are also eligible to participate in JEE Main 2025. Candidates from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) are permitted to apply for this examination. Students who have completed the Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination are also eligible.

Diploma Holders: Individuals holding a diploma may apply for JEE Main 2025 to take the JEE Advanced examination. However, their rank and score in JEE Main will not be considered for admission into NITs and CFTIs.

It is important to note that board marks will not be factored into the calculation of the JEE Main score from the year 2019 onwards.

For B.Arch (Paper 2): Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their 10+2 examination.

Passing Year Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates who have successfully completed the 12th grade or an equivalent examination in 2023 or 2024 are eligible to apply for this examination. However, those who appeared for the 12th grade or an equivalent examination in 2024 but did not pass in 2021, despite having passed in 2022, will not be eligible to apply. Additionally, candidates who completed their 12th grade examinations in 2022 or earlier, as well as those who will be appearing for the 12th grade in 2026 or later, are not eligible to apply for JEE Main 2025. If a candidate qualifies the 12th grade examination in 2024 and subsequently takes improvement exams in 2025 for one or more subjects, the top 20 percentile cut-off for 2024 will be utilized. Conversely, if a candidate takes all subjects in 2024, the better of the two performances will be taken into account. It is also important for candidates to note that for the percentile system, the total marks obtained across all five subjects on the mark sheet are required for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

Eligibility for Admission in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs (Through CSAB):

For admissions to B.E, B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Plan programs in institutions that accept JEE Main ranks through CSAB (based on All India Rank), candidates are required to achieve a minimum of 75% in their 12th-grade examinations conducted by the respective boards (or 65% for candidates belonging to ST/SC categories). Alternatively, candidates must place within the top 20 percentile of their Class 12 examinations as administered by their respective boards. Furthermore, it is mandatory for students to have passed all subjects in their 12th-grade or qualifying examinations. Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs will be granted based on the qualifying percentile announced by each individual institute. Regarding JEE Advanced, students must first qualify for JEE Mains, which serves as the eligibility test for admission into IITs.

Eligibility As Per COA:

Below are the eligibility criteria that have been discussed as decided by COA for admission to B.Arch & B.Plan at institutions other than NITs, IIITs & CFTIs:

For B.Arch:

  • Qualifying Exam: Applying candidate must have passed 12th level from a recognized board or university.
  • Qualifying Marks: Student must have passed 12th level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
  • Qualifying Subjects: In the 12th level, students must have passed with an aggregate of 50% marks and 50% marks in PCM subjects.

For B.Plan:

  • Qualifying Exam: Applying candidate must have passed 12th level from a recognized board or university.
  • Qualifying Marks: Students must have passed 12th level with Mathematics as a mandatory subject.
  • Qualifying Subjects: In the 12th level, a student must have passed with 50% marks in
    Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of qualifying exam.

      Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination: Includes vocational examinations in the higher secondary level recognized by AIU.Diploma Recognized by AICTE or State Technical Education Boards: A diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or a state board of technical education, with a minimum duration of three years.General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level: The GCE exam at the Advanced (A) level from:

      • London

      • Cambridge

      • Sri Lanka

      Cambridge University High School Certificate Examination: Recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system.International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: The International Baccalaureate Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office in Geneva is also considered equivalent.

  • Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates: For SC/ST candidates, the minimum marks required in Class 12th is 65%.

Number of Attempts for JEE Main 2025

Candidates can attempt JEE Main a maximum of three times in consecutive years. This means you can appear for the exam in 2025, 2026, and 2027 if you meet the eligibility criteria in those years.
