What is BTech Chemical Engineering?

Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Chemical Engineering is a four year undergraduate degree in engineering. Candidates that are 10+2 pass or equivalent are eligible to take admission in this BTech course.

The BTech Chemical Engineering syllabus is based on the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and chemistry. Therefore, you must have an aptitude in these subjects in order to excel as a chemical engineer.

Most of the engineering colleges offering this program take admission on the basis of entrance exams. Various universities conduct their own entrance exams such as JET, LPU NEST, SRMJEEE, HITSEEE, AMUEEE or take admission (link admission silo) based on the state level entrance exams. Get complete information about all the BTech Course.Whereas, admission to the IITs is done on the basis of JEE Advanced and to NITs is done on the basis of JEE Mains examination.

A BTech Chemical Engineering degree can get you a job in different sectors like Oil, Gas and Energy, Manufacturing and consumer goods, Pharmaceuticals, Chemical Industries and various PSUs. The salary of Chemical Engineering fresher ranges from INR 3.9 lakhs to INR 21.00 lakhs per annum. It is surmised that there will be a upsurge in demand for qualified chemical engineers in areas such as renewable resources, sustainability etc.

  1. To be eligible for this course, a candidate has to pass higher secondary examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects.
  2. The students who have appeared in 12th examination and await the result are allowed to apply for the course by such institutions.
  3. Students should have a score of above 60% to apply for this course.
  4. Students should clear the entrance exams with the cut off mentioned by the colleges for admission.

The most common route to this course is through the entrance exam. Some colleges offer students a direct entry to the students on the basis of merit list.

Every institute follows a selection process of its own. However, most of them accept scores of entrance tests. Some of them proceed with the students who qualify the entrance exams and move them to the next filtering stage, which is a personal interview.

Some universities offer two pathways for admission such as examination and non-examination pathways. Under entrance based admission pathway, the candidates need to appear for the entrance examination. For this, the candidate should have scored a minimum of 60% marks at higher and senior secondary level and 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th class.

Whereas, under the direct admission pathway, the admissions are done through board merit. A minimum of 80% marks at higher and senior secondary level and 80% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th class is required for admission through board merit. Few colleges offer management seats reserved in private engineering colleges. The fee structure of the colleges offering management quota is generally higher than other institutes.

Some colleges also offer admission to diploma holders by lateral admission.

For admission through JEE mains, a candidate needs a minimum of 60% marks at higher and senior secondary level and 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th class.
