Tie Break Rules
In the event of candidates receiving identical marks, the subsequent tie-breaking criteria will be implemented as follows:
Priority will be given to the candidate who has achieved superior marks in Mathematics. Should this criterion fail to resolve the tie, the candidate with the highest marks in Physics will be awarded a higher rank. If a tie persists after these considerations, the candidate who attained a higher rank in the JEE (Main)-2025 examination within their respective category will be granted the superior rank.

Understanding the IIST 2025 Rank List
The IIST Rank List 2025 is the outcome of the rigorous selection process based on candidates’ performance in the entrance exams. For UG courses, the rank list is primarily based on the JEE Advanced 2025 scores. For PG courses, it is based on the GATE 2025 scores or the IIST entrance exam, depending on the program. The rank list is a key document for shortlisting candidates for the subsequent stages of the admission process, including counselling.
Let’s break down the important details:
For UG Admission (B.Tech Programs)
- Entrance Exam: JEE Advanced 2025.
- Rank List Basis: IIST uses JEE Advanced rank to prepare the merit list.
- Category-wise Merit List: The rank list is published for each category (General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.).
- Cut-off: The IIST rank list will have a cut-off for each category. Candidates who score above this cut-off will be eligible for counselling.
For PG Admission (M.Tech Programs)
- Entrance Exam: GATE 2025 or IIST Entrance Exam (for certain specializations).
- Rank List Basis: IIST uses the GATE score to prepare the merit list for M.Tech admissions.
- Category-wise Merit List: Separate merit lists are created for different categories (General, OBC, SC, ST).
How the IIST Merit List is Prepared
The IIST merit list is prepared after considering the candidates’ scores from the relevant entrance exams. The process differs for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
UG Merit List Preparation (Based on JEE Advanced)
- JEE Advanced Score: Candidates must first appear for the JEE Advanced exam and secure a valid rank.
- IIST Cut-off: Once the JEE Advanced results are out, IIST will release its specific cut-off, which is the minimum rank required for admission. This cut-off varies based on the category and course preference.
- Merit List Preparation: Candidates who meet the cut-off are shortlisted for counselling. The IIST merit list will be prepared based on the rank obtained in JEE Advanced and the course preferences selected by the candidate during the application process.
PG Merit List Preparation (Based on GATE/IIST Exam)
- GATE 2025 Scores: For M.Tech programs, candidates must appear for the GATE 2025 exam. The merit list will be prepared based on the GATE score, with weightage given to the candidate’s performance in the exam.
- IIST Entrance Exam (if applicable): In some cases, IIST conducts its own entrance exam for certain specializations. The merit list will be based on the entrance exam score.
- Cut-off and Rank: After the exam, IIST will release the cut-off marks for each program. Only candidates who meet the cut-off are included in the merit list.
