It is one of the 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology that were established by the Indian TYPE : TYPE : GOVERNMENT 's Ministry of Human Resource Development. IIIT Kottayam was established in 2017 under the TYPE : PUBLIC TYPE : Partnership method. The partnership of the TYPE : TYPE : GOVERNMENT of India, the TYPE : TYPE : GOVERNMENT of Kerala and the industry partners was done in the ratio of 50:35:15 and the investment for IIIT Kottayam will also be done by these three authorities in this very ratio. IIIT Kottayam was declared as an Institute of National Importance in the year 2017. This was done by the IIIT PPP Bill of 2017. This institute has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
