The University of Cincinnati is an open research university that was established in 1819. One of the oldest institutions of higher education in Cincinnati and the second largest in the state of Ohio, the University has played a significant role in several key science and health discoveries. Spanning over 300 years of history as a research pioneer, the University of Cincinnati is responsible for several key inventions, including the electronic organ, antihistamine, the heart-lung machine, and the oral polio vaccine.

The total enrolment at the University of Cincinnati for the year 2019-20 saw a new all-time record of 46, 338 students, of which 3,518 were from international countries. To promote education for all, the university also provides a variety of scholarships and grants ranging from $1,500 to full tuition coverage.

The University of Cincinnati maintains three campuses namely, West Campus, Medical Campus, and Victory Parkway Campus. The West Campus is the main campus of the university and houses 62 buildings. The second campus, Medical Campus, is home to about 19 buildings. It houses the College of Health Sciences and Nursing, College of Medicine, and Winkle College of Pharmacy. Few hospitals are also located at this campus, which includes Shriners Hospital for Children, Cincinnati VA Medical Centre, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The third campus is Victory Parkway Campus which is home to the College of Applied Sciences.

The university has a number of departments that provide a wide range of subjects to the students, giving them a huge scope to choose the subjects according to their field of interest. A few of the departments are the Department of Art and Sciences, Department of Business, Department of Design, Art, and Architecture, Department of Medicine and Nursing, Department of Pharmacy, and the Department of Performing Arts. In addition, the University of Cincinnati is home to the Institute for Policy Research.

The University of Cincinnati hosts various club sports which include the Bearcat hockey team and the club rowing team among several others. The University also has 14 libraries, which are housed in 11 different facilities and is home to over 4 million volumes and 70,000 periodicals. The Walter C. Langsam Library is the main library of the University of Cincinnati. 

The university boasts more than 300,000 active alumni worldwide and has a remarkable list of alumni that includes, Ashley Nkadi – Miss Black Ohio, 2017, Al Hirt – Winner of 20 Grammy Awards and known as the King of Trumpet, Tennessee Ernie – Marked his name on the Hall of Fame list, Evelyn Venable – First Model for Columbia Pictures, Hugh O’Brian – Golden Globe-winning actor and Earl Hamner – Emmy-winning producer, among several others.

Cincinnatus Scholarship Program 

The cornerstone scholarship program for the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnatus provides more than $22 million in renewable scholarships to the brightest and most promising incoming first-year students in all academic disciplines.

To be considered for this award, incoming first-year students must submit a completed application and required accompanying materials by December 1 of their senior year.

Darwin T. Turner Scholarship Program

The Darwin T. Turner Scholarship Program was established in 1976 to honor an African American student who, at the age of 16, was the youngest person ever to graduate from the University of Cincinnati. The Office of Ethnic Programs & Services offers this scholarship program to promote academic excellence, foster diversity and provide leadership opportunities to incoming students.

To be considered for this award, incoming first-year students must submit a completed application and required accompanying materials by December 1 of their senior year and meet the additional qualifying criteria.

Alumni Legacy and Network Scholarships

University of Cincinnati Alumni Scholarships are awarded to qualifying students who are lineal descendants (children or grandchildren) of University of Cincinnati graduates who are Loyal Bearcat or William Howard Taft donors (former Sustaining and Life Members) as well as to students from participating UCAA regional alumni network areas. All scholarship awards are based on academic achievement, demonstrated service, and leadership.

National Outreach Award

Recognizing the academic merit of students coming to the University of Cincinnati from select, targeted geographic areas, we are able to provide scholarship money annually.

To be considered for this award, incoming first-year students must submit a completed application and required accompanying materials by December 1 of their senior year. Additionally, applicants must be a resident of or graduate from high school in the California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, or Wisconsin

University of Cincinnati Global Scholarship (International students only)

The University of Cincinnati Global Scholarship is exclusively for international undergraduate applicants. Awards range from $1,000 to full tuition each year and are renewable for up to four academic years.

All applicants are considered for this scholarship however award amounts for top applicants are based on differing priority deadlines.

Transfer Student Scholarships

The University of Cincinnati is able to offer former community college students several scholarships that are renewable for up to four academic semesters (two academic years).

To be considered for the scholarships, community college transfer students must submit their application for admission and transcript information by July 1.

Choose Ohio First

The State of Ohio has awarded specialized scholarships to innovative STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) academic programs. Several proposals by University of Cincinnati faculty have been selected to provide scholarship funding and programmatic benefits to recruit and retain Ohio STEMM students. 

To be considered for these awards offered in engineering, sciences, allied health, mathematics with a focus on actuarial science, medical sciences, or nursing, incoming first-year students must submit a completed admission application and required accompanying materials by December 1 of their senior year. Limited awards will be determined by the colleges of these academic disciplines.

Buildings coordinator for operations and management of the College of Engineering and Applied Science physical plant

  • Coordinates safety and security of College of Engineering and Applied science Buildings,
  • Responsible for laboratory outfiting and renovation,
  • College liaison with university offices, e.g., construction management, maintenance of facilities, capital finance, etc.,
  • Responsible for scheduling and maintaining common college conference rooms and public areas.

On Campus Facilities

Baldwin Hall

(110,390 GSF)

Constructed in 1911, Baldwin Hall is the headquarters for the College administration and academic classrooms. The 80,600 NSF building was reopened January 2002 with computing laboratories, electronic classroom, and seminar rooms.

 

Rhodes Hall
(261,266 GSF)

Rhodes Hall was built adjacent to Baldwin Hall to accommodate the College expansion that took place in the 1970s. The 224,029 NSF building continues to provide outstanding faculty offices, undergraduate and graduate laboratories, and a 12,000 sq. ft. high bay area.

 

Old Chemistry Building
(144,610 GSF)

Located in the Schneider Quadrangle, the College utilizes over 16,672 NASF for offices, classrooms, and laboratories. Many engineering departments share the space for sponsored research, general administrative activities, instruction, and program support.

 

Engineering Research Center (ERC)

(189,644 GSF)

The new Engineering Research Center opened in June 1995 and is a focal point of College research. The 158,592 NSF facility houses state-of-the-art research laboratories and offices for graduate students and faculty. Designed by internationally-known architect Michael Graves, in conjunction with the Cincinnati-based firm KZF, the facility is conveniently located adjacent to the existing engineering complex.

 

Learning Center (Rhodes 800)

The tutoring room can be reserved from 8 AM to 5:45 PM. Study room reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis; they cannot be reserved on weekends or on holidays. To reserve study rooms, please fill out the reservation form.
