TISSNET 2020 Admit Card (Released), Exam Date, Syllabus, Pattern and Preparation

Tata Institute of Social Sciences is all set to conduct TISSNET (National Eligibility Test) in online mode to offer admissions to students into the postgraduate programs in one of its campuses. The exam is scheduled to be held on January 4, 2020 from 2 PM to 3:40 PM in 40 cities across the country. TISSNET 2020 Admit Card was released on December 20, 2019

Latest: TISS to conduct TISSMAT (Managemnet Aptitude Test) for candidates who opt for MA (HRM&LR) and/ or MA (ODCL) programs. It will be held on same day immediately after TISSNET. It will have 45 MCQs, 15 each from Management Data Intepretation, Comprehension and Business Awareness sections. 

Candidates who are applying to TISS through TISSNET have the option of choosing from a wide array of courses taught all over the country. With over 52 Master Degree programmes, TISS offers students the flexibility to select 3 programmes across 2 campuses according to the candidate’s preference. The campuses are situated Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad as well as Guwahati.

Candidates who are applying to TISS through TISSNET have the option of choosing from a wide array of courses taught all over the country. TISSNET exam comprises 100 multiple-choice questions which are to be solved in 100 minutes. There is no negative marking applicable in the exam. TISSNET Syllabus includes General Awareness, English Proficiency and Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. Candidates qualifying the test will have to appear for Pre-interview Test/Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Check TISSNET Cutoff

Note: Candidates who are appearing for programmes offered at the Mumbai campus or BALM Chennai will have to report to the Mumbai campus for the Pre-Interview Test  and Personal Interview.

TISSNET Eligibility Criteria

Tata Institute of Social Science specifies TISSNET Eligibility Criteria as mentioned below:

  • A bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Candidates in their final year of graduation are eligible to apply for TISSNET.
  • The applicant must have atleast 15 years of total education in their academic profile
  • Candidates studying in the final year of their graduation but have not passed in all their previous years’ papers are not eligible to apply for any of the master’s courses offered by TISS.
  • There is no age limit criteria nor restriction on the number of attempts.

Note: Candidates who are applying for a Master of Arts (Organization Development, Change and Leadership) should possess at least 2 years of work experience in any field (post their graduation). 

TISSNET Reservation Policy

TISS campuses follow reservation as per the government of India norms. The final admission is granted on the basis of the below-given seat reservation policy: 

*66% seats in TISS Guwahati is reserved for 8 North-eastern states, thus the reservation is applicable on the rest 34% seats.

TISSNET Application Form 2020

TISSNET 2020 Application Form can be filled in online mode only. However, candidates residing in a region with no internet connectivity can get a printed form by sending a request to Assistant Registrar (academic) along with application fee through speed post. Candidates can apply for a maximum of 3 programs at 2 different campuses of TISS in a single form with additional fees.

How to Apply for TISSNET 2020?

  1. Visit the official website of TISSNET i.e. admissions.tiss.edu.
  2. Register using your valid Email-ID. Candidates must note that the email id will be used for future communication, therefore, they should provide valid e-mail ID. 
  3. After TISSNET Application Form opens up, enter all your academic, personal and preferred course details.
  4. Pay the requisite application fee (depending on the number of programs applied) either by online or offline mode.
  5. Scan and upload your photograph, signature, marksheet of the last exam passed and other necessary certificates.

TISSNET Admit Card 2020

TISSNET 2020 Admit Card is now available at the official website of TISS – tiss.edu. Candidates also receive a link at their registered email ID to download the hall ticket of TISSNET 2020.

Steps to download TISSNET 2020 Admit Card

  1. Visit the official website.
  2. Enter your email ID and password.
  3. The admit card will be displayed on the screen. 
  4. Download and take a coloured printout. 
  5. In case, candidates do not receive the admit card or find any discrepancy in the admit card, they may call TISS CARE: 022 – 2552 5252 OR may register their complaint by sending a mail to admissionsinfo@tiss.edu.
  6. Once you have downloaded TISSNET Admit Card, cross-check all the details on it. Make sure they are true and correct.
  7. At the time of appearing for TISSNET 2020, carry a valid original photo ID card along with your admit card.

TISSNET Exam Pattern 2020

TISSNET 2020 will be held in online (computer-based) mode. Questions will be asked from General Awareness, Mathematical and Logical Reasoning and English Proficiency. Candidates have to answer 100 multiple choice questions in a time span of 100 minutes, which means that candidates can roughly give one minute to each question. Due to the present division of weightage, candidates must maintain maximum efficiency while answering questions and not get stuck on the general knowledge section.

As given above, the question paper will be divided into 3 Sections. The weightage of questions and marks of each can be seen below:

Use of Scribe- Candidates with visual impairment will be given an option to have a SCRIBE to assist them to complete the test. The SCRIBEshould be an undergraduate student and should bring a valid ID proof at the time of the test. Persons with Disabilities who have a disability of 40% or more will get a compensatory extra time of  20 minutes per hour.

TISSNET Result 2020

TISSNET Tie Breaker 2020

In case two or more candidates score the same marks and it becomes difficult to maintain the merit list, then TISS uses tie-breaker criteria. This tie-breaker criterion involves comparison of marks of candidates at certain levels. To imply tiebreaker criteria, the following steps are followed:

  1. At first, the Personal Interview marks of the candidates will be compared.
  2. In case Personal Interview marks of both the candidates are equal, then Pre-Interview Test marks will be compared.
  3. If the PIT marks are also equal, then NET score of both the candidates will be taken into consideration.
  4. Again if the entrance score comes equal, then the candidate older in age will be given preference over the one younger in age.

TISSNET Cutoff

  • TISSNET Cutoff will be released along with the result.
  • Cutoff is the minimum qualifying marks that a candidate must obtain to stand eligible for the next selection rounds.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for the written test is 35% (for SC/ ST) and 45% (for others).
  • Some of the factors that determine TISSNET Cutoff include previous year cutoff, the difficulty level of exam, number of test-takers, etc.
  • Given below are the expected category-wise cut off marks for TISSNET 2020. However, TISS will declare the official cutoff in February 2020.

TISSNET Selection Procedure 2020

  • All candidates who successfully qualify TISSNET will be called for Pre-Interview Test/Group Discussion and Interview round. 
  • Only candidates who obtain the minimum cutoff score are eligible to participate in TISSNET selection procedure.
  • TISSNET Selection Procedure has three components of assessment. The components are

Pre-Interview Test

  • Candidates who will be shortlisted after the entrance examination will be invited for the subsequent round of Pre-Interview Test.
  • The Pre-Interview Test is awritten test conducted as a part of the TISSNET Selection Procedure.
  • It carries 50 marks and 30% weightage in the selection process.
  • There will be 2 sections
  1. Section I (25-30 Marks) will be of Essay Writing (1000-1500 words)
  2. Section II (20-25 Marks) will be a short case-let with 4 questions based on it.
  • The duration of PIT is 35-45 minutes.

Personal Interview Round

  • The final round of the TISSNET selection process is the Personal Interview (PI).
  • Candidates are expected to be acquainted with the program for which they have applied, for the PI round.
  • The questions are normally asked regarding their program the candidates choose.
  • It carries 75 marks and 30% weightage in the selection process.

Ques. I belong to the SC/ST Category, which Income Document do I need to Upload?

Ans. Unemployed SC/ ST and OBC(NC) applicant’s whose Parent’s Annual income from all the sources is below 2.5 lakhs and 1 lakh respectively have to pay Application Fee INR 250/- + bank charges additional for  per program  selected 
In order to claim this, the applicant is required to upload the Income Certificate issued by the appropriate authority like Tahsildar, Naib Tahsildar, Block Development Officer or the District Magistrate/Collector.

Ques. How many seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC/PWD?

Ans: For SC (15%), ST (7.5%), OBC(NC) (27%) and PWD (5% i.e. 1% in each category of a) Low vision/blindness, b) Hearing Impairment, and c) Locomotor Disability / Cerebral Palsy) as per Government of India (Goi) rules. The reservation for Kashmiri Migrants (KM) 5% and Armed Forced 5% subject to the Government of India (Goi) Directives

Ques. What is the procedure for verifying Original Documents?

Ans: Document verification will be done before re-opening of classes between April to June 2020 All the original documents from Xth standard onwards should be produced for verification.

Ques. What is Pre-admission Medical check-up?

Ans: All the provisionally selected candidates have to undergo for the Medical check-up which will be conducted by the Medical Officers of the Institute after verification of original documents on the same Day.

Ques. Where will the PIT/ PI rounds be held?

Ans. TISSNET will take place at 40 different cities/towns across the country.  Pre Interview Test (PIT) and Personal Interview (PI)  for programmes offered at  Mumbai, Tuljapur, BANYAN, Chennai will be conducted at the Mumbai Campus. For programmes offered at Hyderabad and Guwahati, the PIT/PI will be conducted at the respective campuses. Candidates applying for programmes at more than one campus will have to travel to these places for PIT/PI. Except for the eligible candidates from the SC/ST categories, all others will bear the cost of travel, lodging, and boarding for attending the NET, as well as PIT/PI.

Ques. Can I change the date of my PIT/ PI?

Ans. A change in the dates for PIT and PI may be considered if the date of PIT and PI at the TISS clashes with the date of entrance test of another Institution or the date of final year examination of the candidate. However, the candidate must produce documentary evidence for this. Please note that the changed date for PIT and PI will be only within the time schedule announced by TISS.
