The university was first established as  GGS Polytechnic College in Established In : 1998 and later GGS College of Education, GGS College of Education and other colleges were added. Finally, Guru Kashi University was established in Established In : 2011. The university is approved by UGC, MHRD, AICTE, Bar council of India, NCTE and ISTE. Further,, the university is recognized by the TYPE : Government of Punjab, Association of Indian Universities, Pharmacy council of India. GKU, Bathinda is accredited by the IACR.
