Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh popularly known as MCM DAV, was established in 1968 by the DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, to commemorate the meritorious services rendered by Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, former Chief Justice of India, a distinguished legal luminary, great patriot, administrator par excellence, committed educationist, social reformer and humanist.

MCM is highly reputed for its superior academic programmes, intellectual vigour, cultural and moral sensitivity, dedicated faculty and achievements of the students
The aim of the college has always been to produce enlightened and potential women, the future decision and policy makers who would repay the society through maximum utilization of their educational input

Extracurricular Activities:

Various students support services are available to groom our students into conscientious member of society which primarily include the following:

Legal Literacy Club: Women empowerment does not become meaningful without law on its side. The college became the first college ever in the city to launch a Legal Literacy Club.
Grievance Cell: The cell helps in direct communication of the students with the Management. Locked boxes are kept in the college and hostel through which students can communicate their grievances.
Character Building Cell: The cell looks after the moral well-being of young students. The students visits old-age homes, participates in hawans and are engaged in several social outreach activities.
Health Care Unit: The unit, constantly regulates the health related problems of the students. The college provides the services of a general physician, a gynecologist and a skin specialist.
Geetanjali: The helpline is available to the students facing emotional, Psychological or social problem.
N.C.C: NCC inculcates a spirit of discipline and patriotism amongst the students. It helps to broaden their outlook and develop the quality of leadership and spirit of fraternity. The college unit offers Army and Navy Wing.
N.S.S: To enrich the students personality and deepen her understanding of the social environment in which she lives.

Facilities

Girls Hostel

MCM functions on the belief that quality engenders quality. With the learner-centric focus of ascertaining that our products have an edge over the rest, we constantly endeavor to give them the best. Our enlivening Hostel, located on the college premises comprises six sprawling blocks, furnished with the latest amenities to provide a home away from home to approximately 1000 students. It is one of the most sought-after destinations for accommodation across the region for its facilities and secure atmosphere.
Gym

The college has a Gym facility for the students.
Library

The College offers a spacious, fully computersized open shelf library. The total area of the library is 5170 Sq. ft. and the area of the reading room is 2124 Sq. ft. The library has more than 35,000 books and subscribes to 32 National journals. Besides it receives 26 newspapers and 67 magazines. Library and reading room are kept open to all students from 9 am to 4 pm on all working days. It has open access facility. The library is computerized and issue and receipt of books is carried out through the use of laser scanner. All books have been automated with bar codes and are stored in open shelf for easy access to students. For meritorious and economically backward students book-bank facility is available. The library also provides books to students during examination time with the collection of deposit money. The MCM Library is constantly monitored using CCTV cameras to ensure security and discipline in the library. The MCM Library has separate seating sections for the students and staff. We endeavor to further improve all our efforts to facilitate right information to the right user at the right time.
Sports

The college has won the Panjab University General Efficiency All-Round Championship in sports 38 times in its existence of 50 years. The college owns well maintained playfields and Seth Bhagirath Das Gymnasium Hall within the campus. Facilities are provided for various games and sports such as Hockey, Volley Ball, Ball Badminton, Basketball, Handball, Softball, Cricket, Kho-Kho, Table Tennis, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Yoga, Kabbaddi, Gymnastic, Judo, Weight Lifting, Power Lifting, Cycling, Rowing, Athletics, Shooting, Baseball, Netball, Archary, Football, Fencing and Chess.
