Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, a project undertaken by the SGPC is a missionary, charitable and humanitarian institution, seeks to impart inclusive education to learners from all creeds, castes and religions. Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, the former Chief Minister had announced during fourth centenary celebrations of the installation of Sri Adi Granth at Golden Temple that a university dedicated to the ideals enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib would be established. His dream reached fruition when the Punjab Legislative Assembly passed Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act (Punjab State Act 20/2008) and the SGGSWU commenced its first academic session in July 2011. The University has also secured the membership of AIU (Association of Indian Universities)- Membership No. 614.

There has been no looking back since then. With all kinds of support from the State and the SGPC, the University has made rapid strides, in a short span of time, to emerge as a premier institution of higher learning in North India. Several innovative academic programmes in the fields of emerging technologies, sciences and humanities are being run by the University for the benefit of the students. Major thrust areas of the University are promotion of value based quality education and research. It is a matter of great pride for us that research projects worth more than Rs. 3 crores have been awarded to the University faculty by the national agencies such as the DST, CSIR and DAE etc. A large number of faculty members are actively involved in carrying out research and publish their papers regularly in journals of international and national repute.

Workshops and competitions for the holistic growth of personality of the learners and for providing hands-on training in the use of scientific equipment are structured into the very curriculum, the University offers.

The University believes in creating and applying the knowledge gained through a rational and responsible approach towards society. The students are being prepared for leadership in a rapidly changing world. The ten Faculties on the campus offer its students vast opportunities to follow their passions and team up to solve complex global challenges. Today, the University is offering twenty doctoral, thirty-six post-graduate, twenty-two under-graduate, a postgraduate diploma and three diploma programs to its students. Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Admission Overview

Admissions to SGGSWU are75% merit based and 25% Entrance-based. To apply for the same the candidates need to follow the mentioned steps:

For B.Tech, 75% seats shall be filled on the basis of merit in qualifying examination from recognized board and 25% seats shall be filled on the basis of JEE Merit.

For M.Tech,75% seats shall be filled on the basis of merit in qualifying examination from recognized board and 25% seats shall be filled on the basis of GATE percentile.

For MBA, 75% seats shall be filled on the basis of merit in qualifying examination from recognized board and 25% seats shall be filled on the basis of CMAT rank.

Admission to Ph.D. will be granted on the basis of merit in the Entrance Test followed by an Interview conducted by the university.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Scholarships

In order to encourage the needy and meritorious students who cannot afford to pursue higher education, and keeping in view the mandate of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act, the University awards ‘Sri Guru Granth Sahib Scholarships’ to 10% needy and meritorious students in all courses, against additional 10 % supernumerary seats i.e. the seats over and above the sanctioned intake. These additional 10% seats are further classified in two categories as below, for granting the scholarships:

i) Scholarships equivalent to 5% seats in each class of respective course will be offered to needy and meritorious Sabat Surat Gursikh students with the scholarship details as under:

1. Scholarship amount equivalent to the total Tuition Fee will be offered for 2.5% of the seats under this category.

2. Scholarship amount equivalent to 25% to 50% of Tuition Fee will be offered for the remaining 2.5% of the seats under this category.

(ii) Scholarships equivalent to 5% seats in each class of respective course will be offered to the needy & meritorious Gursikh and non-Gursikh students with following details:

1. Scholarship amount equivalent to the total Tuition Fee will be offered for 2.5% of the seats under this category.

2. Scholarship amount equivalent to 25% to 50% of Tuition Fee will be offered for remaining 2.5% of the seats under this category.

The following general criteria will be followed for award of these scholarships

1. The scholarship will be awarded for one academic session, which will be renewed every year.

2. The students must have obtained at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination, to become eligible for the scholarship.

3. The continuation of the scholarship, once awarded at the time of admission, during subsequent years of study will depend on consistent good academic performance of the student in the sense that he/she clears all his/her semester exams at the University in the first attempt, with minimum of 6.0 CGPA.

4. The total family income of the students from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2.5 Lac per annum.

5. A committee of University officials/department heads will be constituted to scrutinize the claims of candidates for the award of scholarships. The committee will be authorized to determine the merit and need-based requirements of the students, after holding the interview. The decision of the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendations of the committee will be final.

6. If at any stage, it is found that a student has obtained a scholarship by misrepresentation/ concealment of facts, he/she will have to deposit a fee for all the semesters.

Minority Community Scholarships

This is a centrally sponsored scheme to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities (Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Parsis). These scholarships are awarded through an agency designated by the State Government for this purpose.

The scholarships under the following schemes are available for the students belonging to minority communities:
i) Merit-cum-Means Scholarships

The objective of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities whose parents’ income is less than Rs. 2.5 lac per annum, to enable them to pursue professional and technical courses.

ii) Post Matric Scholarships

These scholarships are provided to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities whose parents’ income is less than Rs. 2 lac per annum, to enable them to pursue courses in Arts and Humanities, Science and Commerce streams.

iii) Maulana Azad National Fellowship

The objective of the scheme is to provide fellowships to the students belonging to minority communities whose parents’ or guardian’s income is less than 2.5 lac per annum, for pursuing higher studies such as M.Phil. and Ph.D.

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste Students

This is a centrally sponsored scheme. Under this scheme, Punjab Domicile students belonging to Scheduled castes/ Scheduled Tribes are given Scholarship by Punjab Govt.

Conditions of Eligibility:

The student must belong to the scheduled caste/scheduled tribe and the annual income of student’s family from all sources must not exceed Rs. 2.5 Lac.

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for other Backward Class Students

This is a centrally sponsored scheme. Under this scheme, Punjab domicile students belonging to the Backward/ other Backward classes are given scholarship by Punjab Govt.

Conditions of Eligibility:

The student must belong to the other Backward Classes and the annual income of student’s family must not exceed Rs. 1 Lac (BPL). The student must have obtained 60% marks in the qualifying examination

Hostel Facility: The University provides separate hostel facilities for Girls & Boys. The girls and boys hostels are equipped with all modern facilities required for comfortable stay of hostel residents.
