Bow Valley College Work Study program
Students are eligible for different work study options.
Work on-campus
The student can work without work permit on school campus if they meet following requirements:
- A full-time post-secondary student at a public post-secondary college or university.
- Have a valid study permit
- Have a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
You need SIN from Service Canada to work in Canada
Work off-campus
- If a student has been a full-time student for 6 months, they can search for off-campus jobs.
- Can work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks.
Students have to provide proof of medical exam while applying for a work permit.
Get a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- The student must have Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada.
- To apply for SIN, international students should present either:
- A study permit issued by Canada Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) that indicates the permit holder “may accept employment” or “may work” in Canada; or
- A study permit with a confirmation to work off-campus letter issued by CIC.

Work after you graduate
- Students can work in Canada for up to 3 years.
