National Science Olympiad 2024 Exam Overview

The National Science Olympiad (NSO) is an annual scholarship examination organized by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). Its primary goal is to enhance scientific reasoning and logical thinking among students from class 1 to class 12 through a comprehensive assessment. The NSO consists of two levels: Level 1 is open to all students in classes 1 to 12, while those in classes 3 to 12 who pass Level 1 are eligible to take Level 2. Registrations for the SOF NSO 2024 will close 30 days before the exam date, and students must register through their schools.
Each year, approximately 1 million students participate in the NSO.

National Science Olympiad Eligibility Criteria 2024

The NSO eligibility guidelines state that students from classes 1 to 12 can participate in the first level of the Olympiad, with no minimum score needed to enter.

Those who advance to the second level include:

• The top 5% of students from each class who take the first level exam,
• The top 25 rank holders, both zone-wise and class-wise, and
• Class toppers from each participating school, provided that at least 10 students from that class take the exam and achieve a minimum of 50% qualifying marks. If registrations are done by section, the students with the highest scores, regardless of their section, will qualify for the second level. Note that for section-wise registrations, gold medal winners may not automatically qualify for the second level.

Students in classes 1 and 2 are exempt from the second level NSO exam and will be ranked solely based on their first level performance.

National Science Olympiad Admission Process 2024

The organizing committee distributes the SOF NSO 2024-25 prospectus to all schools registered with SOF. This prospectus includes the registration forms for students. Schools are required to submit the completed forms to SOF along with the application fees by the specified deadline. A minimum of 10 students must register from each school to be eligible for the exam.
