Soon after independence, the Christian community of Changanacherry, realizing the need for an educational institution for women in Central Travencore, conveyed their wish to their leaders. Rt.Rev.Dr.James Kalacherry the then Bishop of Changanacherry, welcomed the idea whole-heartedly and His Excellency laid the foundation stone for a Womenâs College on 12th August 1949. Initially, the college functioned as an annexe of S.B. College. In 1950, when the Catholic Church solemnly proclaimed the bodily assumption of the Blessed Virgin as a dogma of faith, the name âAssumptionâ was found to be appropriate for this new womenâs college, In 1955, Rev. Sr. Xavier S.A.B.S took over as the first woman Principal of the college and with her the college started functioning as an independent institution. Most of Assumptionâs academic excellence and disciplinary tradition can be traced back to her period of efficient administration. The Principals who succeeded her shared her vision and steadfastly adhered to Assumptionâs ideal of excellence. |

It is a matter of great pride for us that the college that started functioning almost as an annexe to St. Berchmanâs College in the academic year 1950-51, with a strength of 358 women students has now grown into a full-fledged first grade college with more than 2000 students in the 19 degree courses, 9 Post graduate courses and other courses in the diverse streams. |

CMS College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore was established by the CMS Educational and Charitable Trust, a non-profit organisation in the year 1988. It is also known as CMS College. In the year 2007, the college received the accolade of autonomy. CMS College, Kottayam
CMS College was founded in 1817 is one of the top colleges in Kerala with 21 departments, the College offers programs in almost all academic fields in arts and sciences. It offers undergraduate along with postgraduate courses to students across various streams namely Science, Commerce and Banking, IT, Arts, Vocational, and many others. CMS College has been accredited with NAAC with a CGPA of 3.27. It has secured a rank among the top 150 colleges in the country.
Born in 1908 into a rich Parsi family, Mary Clubwala Jadhav was raised strictly in the traditional way by her mother who taught her the values of caring and sharing. In 1926, she was married to Mr. Nogi Clubwala who encouraged her to involve in social activities. In 1937, Mrs. Mary Clubwala was made as the honorary secretary of the Guild of Service. In 1942, with World War II raging Mrs. Clubwala founded the Indian Hospitality Committee and persuaded women from all communities and walks of life to join in the effort to organise mobile canteens, hospital visits, diversional therapy and entertainment programmes for the army men.The victorious 14th Army presented her a Japanese sword in appreciation of her tremendous efforts. Mrs. Mary Clubwala was called âthe Darling of the Armyâ by General Cariappa! After the War, her focus was once again on the Guild of Service which put down roots for various projects like health centres, bakery units, an adoption centre, family assistance schemes, Meals on Wheels, rural development projects, a school for the deaf, to name just a few.
Mrs. Clubwalaâs concern for destitute children was responsible for starting the Seva Samajam Boysâ Home and the Seva Samajam Girlsâ Home in Adyar in 1950. In 1954, she helped get started, through the joint efforts of the Guild and the Madras Rotary Club, the Bala Vihar in Kilpauk, a school for mentally challenged children. Perhaps Mrs. Clubwalaâs most significant contribution was establishing the Madras School of Social Work in 1952 as the fourth social work institution in India and the first institution in South India. She had been honoured by the International Council of Social Welfare with the âOutstanding Service Awardâ at Hague in 1972. She has also been awarded the âPadma Shriâ by Government of India. On 6 th February 1975, she breathed her last in Bombay after a surgery to fight cancer. Condoling her death, Mrs. Indira Gandhi mentioned that India lost an eminent social worker.
Parul University is a private university established by the state government of Gujarat in 2015 under Gujarat Private Universities Act.
