What is BTech Food Technology?

BTech Food Technology is a 4-year undergraduate course that deals with the study of Food processing, preservation techniques, and applications of food engineering used in the food industry to increase the shelf life of the product.

The basic eligibility to apply for this program is the completion of 10+2 with at least 50 – 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized university. The admission into the BTech food technology course is usually based on entrance examinations. Some of the major and popular entrance exams are like JEE-MainsWBJEEAmity JEE, and many more.

 

There are various government and private colleges that offer this course. The average course fee ranges between INR 40,000 to INR 1.2 Lakhs.

 

The graduates can work as Food technologists, Food production managers, Food safety officers, Sensory evaluators, Technical brewers, Quality control managers, etc with the B.tech Food Tech degree. Their average salary is expected to be around INR 2 lakh to 3.5 lakh per annum. Do I qualify for Btech Food Technology eligibility criteria?

To able to apply for any of the exams or college, the candidates should fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria, that may be:

 

  1. The candidate should have passed 10+2 from a recognized board.
  2. They should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in class XII.
  3. They should have scored a minimum mark of at least 60%. Some relaxation is offered to the reserved category.

The admission into the top institutes is usually based on entrance exams. Most of the institutes prefer the scores of the national or state level common entrance exam, whereas the private institutes can conduct their own entrance exam.

 

For admission into the BTech Food Technology courses, they will have to go through the following processes:

 

  1. Apply for national or state level entrance exams, by filling the application form, submitting the required documents, and paying the application fees.
  2. Download the admit card and sit for the entrance exams.
  3. The results of the exams will be announced and a few days later the colleges will release their cut-off.
  4. Check the colleges where you could clear the cut-off and apply for those colleges.
  5. The colleges will then release the merit-list by evaluating the students based on the entrance exams, previous academic scores, and any other extracurricular talents.
  6. The shortlisted students will be called for counseling, to choose their branch of study.
  7. Once they choose the branch, verify their documents, and pay the 1st installment of their tuition fees, they will be admitted to the college.

Most of the colleges consider the scores of the national or state level entrance examinations for admission into BTech food technology courses. There are some private institutes that also conduct their own entrance exams. Some of the entrance exams are mentioned below:

 

JEE-Mains – It is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The score of this exam is considered by almost every engineering institute. The top 2.5 lakh score holders become eligible to sit for JEE-Advanced and have the chance to get admissions in the IITs and NITs.

 

WBJEE – It is a state-level entrance exam conducted by WBJEE Board. The exam is for admission into undergraduate courses like engineering, architecture, and pharmacy. It offers admission into the colleges available in West Bengal.

 

EAMCET – EAMCET is a state-level entrance exam, conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University. They offer admission in engineering, agriculture, and medical programs in the colleges available in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State.

 

UPESEAT – UPES Engineering Aptitude Test is conducted by the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies for admission into its B.Tech courses.
