Vels University is a deemed to be university established in the year 1992. The varsity is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the university with an ‘A’ grade. Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies ranked 43rd in NIRF pharmacy ranking 2020 and 100 in the NIRF ranking for engineering category. As per the NIRF ranking 2021, the institute has been ranked 125 amongst engineering institutions with an overall score of 36.63. The university has been ranked 37th in the NIRF 2021 rankings in the pharmacy category. It has 703 faculty members and the campus is spread over an area of 29 acres. As per the official website of Vels University, its mission is to impart knowledge and promote innovative thinking.

The varsity offers diploma, UG, PG and doctoral courses. Vels University has integrated courses as well. Admission to courses is offered on the basis of marks of the last qualifying exam and entrance exam conducted by the varsity, depending upon the programme. Candidates’ scores in CAT, MAT, XAT are accepted for admission in the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) programme. For admissions into both B.E. and B.Tech courses, the applicant must clear the entrance test VEE, which is conducted on an all-India level. The selection of candidates to the professional courses will be made on the basis of merit i.e. marks scored in the qualifying examination and the aforementioned entrance test. For programmes like Maritime Studies, one should also pass a Medical Test to be eligible to be applied.

The university’s UG programme is as diverse and distinctive as its professional courses. But the admission into Vels University UG programmes is much simpler than its professional courses.

Vels University and MCA programmes require the candidates to not only fulfill the eligibility criteria but to also clear the Vels Entrance Test – VEE.

Admission to these courses will be based on merit and marks scored by the candidates in the entrance test as well as the qualifying examination. Once qualified, the applicants will be called for a personal interview. This interview along with the score will determine the admission status of the aspirant. The candidates will first have to participate in a group discussion, after which they will have their personal interview.

Vels University PG programme has a wide variety of courses. The mentioned professional courses like M.E., M.Tech, and MCA do belong in this category. The common eligibility criteria for PG courses involve a Bachelors’ Degree, most often in the same field.

VELS University M.Phil & Ph.D. Admission 2022

For M.Phil admission, the candidate must clear a common entrance test, followed by an interview with regard to their research interest or area. The candidate will be selected based on the score from both entrance and interview.

For Ph.D. admission, the candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria, clear the common entrance test and the viva-voce conducted by the university. Based on their performance in these they will be selected. At the time of the admission, the selected candidates should pay the research and admission fee without fail.

Application Process:

Application form can be received from the University office
Application form can be obtained through the post in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favor of ‘Registrar, Vels University’ payable at Chennai.
The filled-in application form along with all the enclosures mentioned in the form must be submitted to the university either in person or by post.

Selection Process

The provisionally selected candidates (either through the entrance test or through the marks of the qualifying examination) will be called in for a personal interview by the university.
The admission of any candidate who fails to appear for the interview will automatically be canceled.
Admission into the various courses will be based on merit and the personal interview.
Once admitted into the course, the candidates and their parents will have to follow certain procedures – sign declarations, pay the fees and submit all the necessary documents/certificates, after meeting their concerned Head of Department.
The original documents submitted at the time of admission will only be returned at the time of graduation, so make sure to take plenty of copies of those documents.
It should also be noted that the fees paid will not be refunded at any point.
If anyone decides to discontinue after admission, the student is liable to pay the fee for the entire course.
Any candidates with a qualifying examination other than the HSE conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu should then obtain an Eligibility certificate from the Vels University by remitting the prearranged fee along with the application form.

Boys Hostel

The boys hostel of the university provides a comfortable accommodation to the students. Vels University boys hostel has various facilities like laundry, wifi, canteen, mess etc. AC rooms are also available to students on request.
Girls Hostel

Separate hostel for girls students is present at the varsity campus. The girls hostel has spacious and ventilated rooms. Laundry, canteen, mess, wifi, gym etc. are a few of the Vels University hostel facilities.
Gym

The gym present at the campus allows students to workout and maintain good physical health. All the latest equipment is there in the gym.
Library

The library of the varsity is spread over an area of 20,000 square feets. It has a seating capacity of 500 people. Vels University library has an ample number of books, journals, dissertations, publications etc. A digital library is also available for students and faculty members.

There are both indoor and outdoor sports facilities for students. Cricket ground, volleyball court, basketball court, football ground etc. are present at Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies campus.
