Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM, was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists of Andhra Pradesh led by Dr. M. V. V. S. Murthi, former Member of Parliament and popular philanthropist.
The vision of MAHATMA, the Father of the Nation was to see India as a socially and economically resurgent country and he looked upon education as an important means to achieve this goal. Gandhiji’s view of education was not narrow or sectarian. He envisaged universities as institutions of higher learning that transcend all linguistic, racial and other barriers. GITAM is committed to imbibe his values and abide by his philosophy.

Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, Visakhapatnam (GITAM Deemed University Visakhapatnam) was established in 1980. It received the title of deemed-to-be-university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. GITAM Visakhapatnam is the main campus of GITAM while the other two campuses are located in Hyderabad and Bengaluru that were established in 2009 and 2012, respectively. GITAM University has released the GITAM GAT 2021 final phase dates. GITAM GAT final phase will be conducted on September 22.
GITAM Visakhapatnam is spread across 110 acre with 10 institutes functioning under its name, including GITAM Institute of Technology, GITAM Institute of Science, GITAM Institute of Management, etc. All these institutes offer 109 courses at UG, PG, diploma, certificate and research-level, such as BTech, BSc, BA, MTech, MTech, MBA, MSc, etc. among various others. GITAM Institute of Technology (GIT): GIT is a full-fledged technological institute that offers a wide range of programmes, including nine UG, 16 PG and a PhD programme in more than 10 Engineering disciplines.
GITAM Institute of Science: This institute takes pride in offering several programmes, including MSc, BSc and BSc (Hons). The institute also offers Science-based research programmes. Some of its courses are even sponsored by the pharma giants, such as Laurus Labs and Dr Reddy’s Labs.
GITAM Institute of Management (GIM): GIM functioning under GITAM Visakhapatnam offers MBA and Executive MBA programmes of two-year duration. In addition to this, it offers BBA, MCom and BCom programme. Also, it conducts GIM Online Test or GOT for granting admission to various courses.
GITAM Institute of Pharmacy: The Institute offers a four-year BPharm and two-year MPharm programmes with four core specialisations. Currently, it also offers PhD programme in the field of Pharmacy to encourage interdisciplinary research and development.
GITAM School of Architecture: The school offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) programme that is duly approved by the Council of Architecture (CoA), New Delhi.
GITAM School of Law: GITAM Visakhapatnam’s School of Law offers three courses, including BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons) and LLM. The institute has also recently launched its BCom LLB (Hons) programme of five-year duration that is pending for Bar Council of India’s approval.
GITAM Institute of Medical & Research (GIMSR): The institute offers a full-time five-and-a-half-year MBBS programme, spread across 11 semesters. The institute is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Medical Council of India (MCI) and has an annual seat intake of 150 students. It also has a GITAM Hospital that is operational with 650 beds with all basic specialties like Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, etc.
GITAM Institute of Nursing: With permission from the Indian Nursing Council, UGC & MHRD, the institute offers BSc Nursing and MSc Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care for its students.
GITAM School of Gandhian Studies: Functioning under GITAM Visakhapatnam, GITAM School of Gandhian Studies has a curriculum structure based on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. Currently, it offers BA, MA, PhD in English and Applied Psychology, Diploma, PG Diploma and Certificate courses.

Facilities
Boys hostel, girls hostel, cafeteria, library, auditorium, sports, bank, transport, wi-fi, laboratories, etc are the facilities provided by GITAM University. Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management Visakhapatnam facilities are available for the students, staff and faculty members. They can access free internet and medical facilities. The university provides an on-campus medical clinic with a 24X7 ambulance service. GITAM University Visakhapatnam facilities of hostels are available for both the boys and girls students. The hostels are equipped with all the basic facilities like water, electricity, mess and many more. The university also has a big auditorium for conducting workshops, seminars and events.
- Boys Hostel
There are more than one hostel for the boys on the university campus. GITAM University boys hostel facilities can be availed by the outstation students. The hostels are fully enabled with wi-fi and students can read and learn comfortably in its eco-friendly environment. The hostels have a separate mess and provide hygienically prepared steam-cooked all-time meals. 24X7 security service, doctor on call, indoor games are also available in the hostels.
- Girls Hostel
The university campus has more than one hostel for girls. The hostels provide basic facilities like safe drinking water, hygienically prepared food, an uninterrupted power supply, etc. The hostels also provide wardens, qualified doctors and 24X7 security services. Recreational facilities like indoor games are also available in the hostels.

Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management library facility has a vast collection of resources like textbooks, reference books, journals, periodicals, newspapers, magazines, e-books, e-journals, etc.

GITAM University sports facility has both indoor and outdoor games like chess, carrom, badminton, table tennis, tennis, football, basketball, cricket, handball, volleyball, etc. Separate fields are maintained especially for outdoor games.

The university cafeteria facility is available for both the students and staff members. The menu of the cafeteria includes both south Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals at reasonable rates. The cafeteria is very large and can accommodate a large number of people.

Merit Scholarships will be given by means of tuition fee for top 100 rankers of GAT (UGTP).

- Merit-cum-means scholarships will be awarded to 5% of students in each department of the University @ INR. 2000/- per month which will depend on two factors:

- Teaching assistantships will be offered to meritorious students of M.Tech and M.Pharmacy depending upon the need and availability of suitable candidates, subject to a maximum of three students in each program @ Rs. 5,000/- per month.
