With the benign blessings of Guru Hargobind Sahib, the magnificent edifice of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, was established in 1948. The foundations of the college date back to the 1920’s, when with the visionary dream of Nihang Shamsher Singh Ji, a ‘Gurumukhi Pathhshala’ was kick started here which was once considered to be a waste stretch of land. This impetus over the years evolved into the present day degree college, a ‘Wonder in Rural Hinterland’. The purpose behind its establishment has always been to cater to the higher educational needs of the rural population with the motto of ‘Simple Living & High Thinking’. Presently, this great institution caters to more than 3000 students, multi-disciplinary courses, at both graduated and post-graduate level. The sprawling campus spread over 30 acres of land includes Nihang Shamsher Singh Hall, Dhillon open Air theatre, Nihang Shamsher Singh Stadium , Sardar Sardara Singh Sports Complex, Six-a-side Hockey Astro-turf, State-of-the-art indoor Shooting Range, indoor multipurpose gymnasium, faculty houses, Guru Hargobind boys’ hostel, Mata Ganga girls’ hostel, an ultra-modern Seminar Hall, student center, a well-stacked Library, up-to-date Laboratories, a beautiful Administrative Block, and high-tech education dissipation mediums. The beauty and grandeur of the institution is further enhanced with well-kept lawns, sprawling grounds, fountain and pollution free atmosphere. The institution is the right blend of traditional values in modern era with its unique ability to make steady yet tremendous progress with respect to the changing education scenario. Initially, only conventional subjects of science and arts streams were offered, but with the passage of time, advanced subjects alongwith vocational training were also introduced. In 1982, while the B.Com. was introduced and the M.A. English was re-introduced. By establishing a Computer Centre in 1990, the College got the distinction of being the first in the Panjab University. In 1994, vocational courses like ‘Computer Applications’ and ‘Industrial Fish and Fishery’ were launched. In 1997, ‘Computer Hardware and Maintenance Certificate Course’ in association with Punjab Consumer Electronics Limited were introduced to benefit the rural girls and economically poor women. In 1998, B.C.A. made entry and subjects of Psychology and Public Administration were made available in 1999. In 2001, M.Sc. (IT) and P.G.D.C.A. courses were started. M.Sc. in Math and B.Sc. in Bio- Technology were introduced in 2006 and 2007, respectively. From the session 2009-10 onwards, the college started new courses of M.Sc. in Chemistry and M.A.in History. In 2011, a new vocational course ‘Computer Based Accounting’ was introduced. For the session 2014-15, M.Sc. Physics, M.A. Punjabi, M. Com., B.Com 2 nd unit, BBA, & Music (Vocal) subject were introduced. In 2016, B.P.Ed., B.Voc., Food Processing & Quality Management, Diploma in Medical Lab technology and an integrated B.A.+ B.Ed. (four years) course were also introduced. The M.P.Ed. course was introduced in 2017 after the approval of National Council of Technical Education (NCTE). The college has also started providing sports training in Archery, Canoeing, Kyaking and Rowing. The college is, thus, making progress by leaps and bounds under the able and judicious guidance of Sardar Manjit Singh Gill, President, College Governing Council, who is an educated, versatile and a dynamic personality having a deep & far-sighted vision.
GHG Khalsa College caters to the cultural, social, spiritual, moral and educational requirements of the rural youth and also the common people in general. Inspiring students with the right education and service and to create useful and intelligent citizens is the main aim of the college. The main objective of the college is to create, maintain and manage several educational institutions and also to encourage the growth of games and sports in the rural areas. Achievement and advancement in every field are the marked aim of the college and it is making all efforts in reaching this objective.
