Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kottayam OverviewThe Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kottayam is an engineering institute which is autonomous in nature. It is one of the 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology that were established by the Indian TYPE : TYPE : GOVERNMENT 's Ministry of Human Resource Development. IIIT Kottayam was established in 2017 under the TYPE : PUBLIC TYPE : Partnership method. The partnership of the TYPE : TYPE : GOVERNMENT of India, the TYPE : TYPE : GOVERNMENT of Kerala and the industry partners was done in the ratio of 50:35:15 and the investment for IIIT Kottayam will also be done by these three authorities in this very ratio. IIIT Kottayam was declared as an Institute of National Importance in the year 2017. This was done by the IIIT PPP Bill of 2017. This institute has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). At the time of its foundation, IIIT Kottayam functioned at the campus of Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kerala which was its temporary campus for a while, under the mentorship of a reputed college, the National Institute of Technology Calicut. The mentorship of IIIT Kottayam was later given to IISER Thiruvananthapuram and its campus was shifted to the campus of Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT) at Thiruvananthapuram. This happened in December 2016 after which the construction of the permanent campus of IIIT Kottayam was started.At present, IIIT Kottayam functions from its permanent campus at Valavoor, Palai in Kottayam District of the state of Kerala, the inauguration of which was done in February 2019. The location of the institute is serene and beautiful. Despite being a new establishment, IIIT Kottayam is striving towards becoming a topmost college of engineering in India. It has formulated a plan to keep the authorities functioning smoothly so that students can avail as many benefits as possible. During its yesteryears, the college only provided a 2-year Diploma Course in Home Science which was further followed by a 1-year Teacher Training Course in Home Science. During its developing years, the college changed hands from the Co-operative society to a Trust Home Economics Education Society with Mrs Rameshwari Nehru as the President and Dr(Mrs) S. Malhan as the founder Director of the college. IHE, New Delhi became a constituent college of the University of Delhi in the year Established In : 1969 and within a few years two more new programmes were introduced, i.e 1-year Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics & Type:Public Health & Nutrition and 3-year B.Sc (Hons) in Home Science. In the year 1987, Lt. Giani Zail Singh, the then President of India laid the foundation stone of what was to become the present day college campus in Hauz Khas Enclave, in addition to the existing campus DLF provided the Co-operative society on a 99-year lease. The same year also marked the introduction of IHEs first Postgraduate programme- 2-year M.Sc Home Science in Textile and Clothing. The college today imparts professional education to more than 1500 girls from different social strata in various Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate level.
