The institute came into existence with a generous grant of 30,000 pounds from an American philanthropist, Mr. Henry Phipps. At that time IARI Delhi was known as Agricultural Research Institute (ARI) and it was functioning in Bihar. Later on in the year 1911 the name was changed to Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research and then again it was renamed as Imperial Agricultural Research Institute in the year 1919. Established in 1909, the Indian Institute of Science is an Institute of Eminence located in Bangalore. IISc Bangalore started its venture with the joint efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Government of India and the Maharaja of Mysore.
